Taylor Fuller, BA IS/ B Sound and Music Design, ICS Germany
“Empathy is the most important skill in a journalist’s arsenal, but it can’t be taught on the job or in the classroom, only learned through lived experience. My time in Germany, as part of a Bachelor of International Studies, forced me into negotiating situations where empathy was not only required, but demanded.“
Taylor first completed a Communications degree at UTS, and then returned for a double degree in Sound and Music design and International studies. He has composed music for film and made radio documentaries. He has been undertaking his In Country Studies in 2018-19 in Germany. Whilst doing so, he continued to report on a Coroner’s Court Inquiry in Sydney. His radio reporting (with Miles Herbert, Lorena Allam, and Miles Martignon) for 2SER and Guardian Australia on “The death of David Dungay” made him a finalist in the 2018 Walkley Awards in the “Coverage Of A Major News Event Or Issue (Radio)” category.
