UTS Bachelor of Arts in International Studies 25th Anniversary

Evrithiki Diinis, BA IS/ B Communication (Social Inquiry), ICS Germany

Having studied German throughout high school, and dreamed of working for the UN one day, an international exchange was always a given. Ten years on and I still reminisce about my year at TU Berlin, as one of the first two BAIS students’ to be placed there.  It is still one of my most rewarding experiences to date – the challenging subjects, passionate professors, the amazing wallet friendly student ‘Mensa’ canteen, and the liberal energy of the city.

Evrithiki undertook a combined degree with Communication and attended the Technische Universitaet Berlin, now one of UTS’s Key Technology Partner universities.  After graduating and spending some time in industry, Evrithiki revisited the in country experience in a different setting, living and working in Ghana for a year.  Since then, she has founded an ethical streetwear company, IDEY KOKO, which sources unique pieces from designers and workers in Ghana and markets them online.

Little did I know how the year would change the trajectory of my life and expand my personal horizons. It’s where I was introduced to entrepreneurship and swept away by a sense of possibility. Five years later I wasn’t working at the UN but in Ghana starting ‘IDEY KOKO’ an ethical streetwear label.
