UTS Bachelor of Arts in International Studies 25th Anniversary

Anna Watanabe, BA IS/ B Communication (Journalism), ICS Japan

In-country-study at Ibaraki National University was by-far the best experience [in my Bachelor of International Studies]. Studying outside Tokyo or Osaka meant Japanese – not English – was the lingua franca, which pushed me to use my Japanese more, and in a wider variety of contexts. And I made lifelong friends!  I am now working as a reporter in the Sydney bureau of Kyodo News, Japan’s largest wire service.

Anna combined International Studies with a Communications degree, majoring in journalism.  She graduated in 2012.

Thanks to the language skills I gained through my degree, I’m a strong member of staff in an office where we only speak Japanese. And I’m still keeping my travel bug happy by regularly reporting from around the Pacific.
